Catherine Barnhart, Chairperson

Dr. Catherine Barnhart, PsyD, is a Clinical Psychologist in private practice in the Lakeview area of Chicago. She works with all ages providing individual, family, couples, and group psychotherapy as well as other types of professional consultation. In addition, she works part-time at Jewish Child and Family Services where she participates in student supervision and training. She is also an Adjunct Faculty member at The Chicago School. Catherine received her BA in Psychology from the University of Denver in 1998 and her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School in 2006. She is passionate about Trilogy’s mission and the services offered to people in the community living with serious and persistent mental illness. She has been on the Board of Directors since 2003 and, in addition to participating in other committees throughout the years, currently serves as the Program Quality Committee Chair and as the Vice-Chair of the Board.

 

Stephen M. Fatum, Vice Chairperson

Stephen M. Fatum is a partner in the Chicago office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP. He concentrates his practice in the Healthcare Department. Stephen’s focus has been on legal and strategic matters affecting physicians, physician organizations and not-for-profit corporations. He received his law degree from Emory University School of Law in 1985 and his B.A. degree in history from Holy Cross College in 1981. He is admitted to practice in the state of Illinois. Stephen is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and has served as chair of the Healthcare Section Council. He is also a member of the American Health Lawyers Association and the Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys. Stephen is a frequent speaker on physician and hospital relationships. Stephen also serves on the Boards of Midwest Young Artists and Chicago Jazz Philharmonic. Stephen has been a Board Member of Trilogy Inc. since January 2002 and past chair of its Development Committee.

 

Catherine A. Brownlee, Secretary

Cathy Brownlee is Executive Director of the Association of Professional Design Firms (APDF). In addition to her role as APDF Executive Director, Cathy is an Account Supervisor for West + Associates (design firm located in McLean, Virginia), spearheading new business development and project management efforts in the Chicago area. Cathy earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism/advertising at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She also holds a business administration certificate from the University of Illinois-Chicago’s Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies and has attended the University of Chicago’s Strategies in Nonprofit Management Certificate Program. She has been active in community organizations such as the Partners in Education tutoring program for public housing children and the Tri-Masters Sports Initiative Program. In addition to her position as Secretary of Trilogy’s Board of Directors, Cathy’s other professional activities include membership and participation in Executive Women International (EWI), International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), Society of National Association Publications (SNAP), Association Forum of Chicagoland and ASAE. Cathy joined Trilogy’s Board of Directors in October 2005 and currently also chairs the Membership Committee.

 

Michael B. Lowe, Chairperson of Finance, Human Resources

Michael Lowe is an independent consultant and Executive Coach for Lee Hecht Harrison, a leading human capital consulting firm. Michael holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Psychology and an MBA, both from McGill University. He is an alumnus of the University of Michigan’s Executive Human Resources Program and the Stonier Graduate School of Banking. Prior to Lee Hecht Harrison, he was an Executive Vice President for Harris Bank, a member of the Bank of Montreal Group of Companies with over 30,000 employees. During his 38 year business career, he has served in the US, Canada and the U.K. in Retail, Corporate and Investment Banking and Human Resources. In addition to serving on Trilogy’s board, Michael serves as Chair of The Career Transition Center of Chicago. He is also on the Advisory Council of MBA Inc. Michael joined Trilogy’s Board in June 2006 and currently serves as the Chairperson of Finance as well as the Chair of the Human Resources Committee.

 

Sarah Barnes

Sarah Barnes is the Director of Marketing Communications for Cook Associates, a retained executive search and M&A advisory services firm located in Chicago. Sarah received her M.B.A. in Marketing from Loyola University Chicago and is currently on faculty at the Loyola University Chicago Undergraduate School of Business, where she teaches marketing. Sarah has guest lectured at the DePaul University Graduate School of Public Relations and Advertising and at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana American Marketing Association. Sarah’s career began in the not-for-profit sector as Director of Marketing Communications for Midwest Young Artists (MYA). At MYA, she helped establish the organization as one of the leading youth music ensemble programs in the United States. In her spare time, Sarah is on faculty at MYA, where she is the coach of the percussion program. Sarah serves on the Board of Directors for International Chamber Artists (ICA), a not-for-profit professional chamber music ensemble located in Chicago, IL, and recently started Chicago Street Musicians (CSM), a not-for-profit organization that educates the public at large about street musicians. Sarah has been an active member of Trilogy Board of Directors since April 2009.

 

Kevin P. Brown

Kevin P. Brown is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in 1978 and his Juris Doctorate in 1983. Since entering the practice of law, he has concentrated his practice in the areas of employment, corporate, commercial and real estate law and litigation. He is admitted to practice in both Illinois and Wisconsin, is a member of the Federal Trial Bar and has argued cases before the Illinois Appellate Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. He is a member of the American, Illinois, Wisconsin and Chicago Bar Associations. He is also a member of The Executive’s Club and the North Business & Industrial Council. Kevin joined the Trilogy in June 2001 and sits on Board as the Chairperson. In addition, Kevin also serves as a member of the Human Resources Committee.

 

Matthew J. Connelly

Matt Connelly is President of Shamrock Group Management. Matt is a graduate of Loyola University of Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Communication and a Master’s of Management from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Business Management. He is a member of the Roger’s Park Builders Group, the Executive’s Club of Chicago, the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago, St. Ignatius Parish Finance Committee, and involved in many other civic and community activities. Matt has been a Board Member for Trilogy Inc. since January 2008 and currently serves on the Building and Grounds committee.

 

Christine B. Fisher

Christine Fisher is a partner in the Chicago office of Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal LLP. Christy has a broad based commercial real estate practice which includes representation of clients throughout the United States in a wide range of debt and equities matters. She practiced in Florida and the southeast for 19 years before relocating to Chicago in 1999, and maintains an active Florida practice, including years of experience with documentary stamp and intangible tax matters. Christy received a BA from the University of the South, a Masters in English from the University of Florida and her Juris Doctorate (with honors) from the University of Florida, where she was editor of the law review. Christy is a member of the Illinois and Florida State Bar Associations, and she also serves as General Counsel for Cathedral Counseling Center and is a member of their Board of Directors. In 2009, she also served on the Mentorship Committee for the Chicago Committee on Minorities in Large Law Firms. Christy has been a member of Trilogy’s Board of Directors since January 2009 and serves on the Development Committee and Events Committee.

 

Bernie Klos

Bernie Klos is Vice President and CFO for Nostalgia Home Fashions. Bernie is responsible for all areas of finance and administration including HR, warehousing, logistics, and IT. He has extensive experience in manufacturing, distribution and service aspects of consumer products. Bernie earned his BA from University of Illinois - Chicago, and his MBA from De Paul University. He is a certified public accountant (Illinois). Bernie has also been an advisor for Career Renewal, an employment assistance ministry based in Deerfield since 2005. He also has been an active member of the Illinois CPA Society since 1981, serving on minority recruitment and computer technology committees and has been an active participant in local CPA chapter events. Bernie joined Trilogy’s Board of Directors in January 2007 and currently serves as the Audit Committee Chair and as a member of the Finance Committee.

 

Dr. Cindy Nowinski 

Cindy Nowinski, MD, PHD is Director of Education at the Center on Outcomes, Research and Education (CORE) and a Research Assistant Professor in the Institute for Healthcare Studies at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She received her PhD in clinical psychology from Loyola University of Chicago and her MD from Northwestern University Medical School. In addition to her role as co-investigator on the NIH Toolbox Project, she is co-investigator on a five year, NINDS-funded project to develop a health-related quality of life measurement system for people with neurological disorders and on a VA-funded study to develop an HRQL measure specific to deployment-related Traumatic Brain Injury. Cindy joined Trilogy’s Board of Directors in April of 2009 and serves on the Program Quality Committee.

 

Rosetta Sullivan

Rosetta Sullivan is a Recovery Specialist in the Group Services department at Trilogy, Inc. She received her undergraduate degree from Chicago State University in Chicago. Rosetta is dedicated to Trilogy’s mission to assist people in their recovery. In addition to working as a Recovery Specialist, she volunteers at New Life Interim Housing for women and children. Rosetta has been on the Trilogy Board since January 2006 and currently serves on the Program Quality Committee.

 

Hector Torres

Dr. Hector Torres, PhD, is Assistant Professor and Latino Mental Health Initiative Coordinator for The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. A native of Puerto Rico, Hector moved to Florida to attend the Carlos Albizu University where he completed his doctoral studies. He also studied at the Caribbean Center for Advanced Studies. Upon completion of his internship, Hector was appointed a fellow of the National Institute of Mental Health with a National Research Service Award. His research work was subsequently published in the Journal of Sexual Addictions and Compulsivity. He completed his NIMH fellowship at Medical College of Wisconsin with the department of psychiatry and behavioral medicine. Previous to his doctoral studies, Hector held a number of administrative appointments in human service programs with Latino youth and AIDS prevention. Hector joined the Trilogy Board of Directors in April 2009 and serves on the Program Quality Committee.

 

Thelma A. Walker

Thelma A. Walker is the owner of Munson Walker Communications. Thelma graduated from Roosevelt University with a BA in English literature and a concentration in journalism. Prior to opening her own public relations firm, she was the Assistant Director of Media Relations Services at Flowers Communications Group for 11 years. She received numerous industry accolades for her work with such clients as the Illinois Bureau of Tourism, Lawry’s, American Honda, MillerCoors, Walgreens and McDonald’s. Thelma has held membership and board positions with many organizations including the National Black PR Society-Chicago, Publicity Club of Chicago, National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications, Cabrini Green Tutoring Program, National Society of Fund Raising Executives and the Evanston-Northshore YWCA Shelter for Battered Women. Thelma joined Trilogy’s Board of Directors in April 2009 and serves on the Development Committee.

 

Alan R. Waskin

Alan R. Waskin is a versatile legal and business executive, presently providing legal, risk management, strategic planning and business affairs consulting for both domestic and international ventures. For more than thirteen years, Alan served as Vice President of Legal Affairs and Secretary as part of Forsythe Group of Companies management team. He has engaged in a broad range of commercial and corporate practice, provided legal support in various land use and project developments, managed government and community affairs, and has provided counsel for intellectual property matters. He practiced in California for seven years before returning to Chicago in 1996. Alan received a BA from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Southern California Law Center in Los Angeles in 1985. Alan served as an Adjunct Professor at the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management from 1996 until 2003 teaching Business Ethics and Law. He is licensed to practice as a member of the bar in both Illinois and California, and is an active member of the American Corporate Counsel Association. Alan has been a Trilogy Board member since April 2009.
